Key learnings

One of the most impressive areas of my learning has been digital technologies, which evidently shape the foundation the digital economy. Prior to this module, I had a very basic understanding of technology such as A.I, however I wasn’t able to appreciate how vital they are today. I’m now able to grasp that such technologies operate as key enablers of innovation and competitive edge (Yoo et al., 2010). This definitely challenged my previous beliefs that technology played an insignificant role in businesses. I now grasp that business is constantly built around technology as opposed to just implementing it. For example, the use of big data analytics assists companies to anticipate customer preferences, whilst cloud computing allows accelerated scalability.

Personal development

Still on digital technologies, I have established a sound conceptual understanding on how technologies like AI and analytical tools generate business value. I now feel capable in defining how such technologies back decision making and innovation. This shows one of my strongest areas of growth, as I’m able to associate the theoretical ideas to the practical (Byrnjolfsson and McAfee, 2014). Despite this, my reflection featured a gap. My theoretical knowledge is sound, practical skills are undeveloped. I am yet to receive hands on experiences with technologies such as analytical tools and platforms which is an area I need to revise.

Application of learning

Now lets consider a hypothetical business, such as a digital jewellery brand that particularly sells personalised diamond bracelets.

From what i’ve understood about digital technologies, I would integrate data analytics to track customer preferences, needs and personalise suggestions. It agrees with the approach of data driven decision making, which boosts customer experience and business behaviour (Yoo et al., 2010).
